Central America is home to a vast network of freshwater lakes.  The largest, Lake Nicaragua, or Cocibolca is the 21st largest lake in the world and has sharks, sawfish and tarpon.   The volcanic nature of the region has created some spectacular crater lakes, some with hot springs and vents, and majestic rivers snake their way to the sea.  Real estate developers have long been drawn to water for the views and recreational possibilities.
