Surfing is rapidly casting off its beach bum image and emerging as a status sport, like skiing and golf. Its growing popularity has helped to drive real estate sales in Nicaragua, Panama and Costa Rica, even in remote areas with few amenities. Surfers are attracted by the warm waters and lack of crowds in Central America and rave about an almost constant off-shore wind that holds up the waves. Hard core surfers want to be able to walk to a surf break from their property. If they can see the white-water without leaving the house, that's an added bonus.
