Although Panama is not known for green real estate or eco-tourism, recent years have seen a growing number of projects embracing concepts of sustainable development. From advanced bio-architecture in Panama City to bio-sensitive master plans in Bocas del Toro.
It only takes a few pioneers to demonstrate how being environmentally responsible can result in healthy living, reduced energy costs and enhanced asset value. Panama real estate is just at the beginning of the green trend but with more and more investors wanting to invest in a way that helps produce a healthy, liveable world, the market will respond quickly.
In revealrealestate’s 2008 analysis we found 8% of Panama real estate developments have publically available information on steps taken (or planned) against our five criteria on environmental and social responsibility.
These include developments from Panama's main real estate areas - Panama City, Azuero Peninsula, Boquete and Bocas del Toro. There may be a great deal more 'silent activity' and we plan to take additonal steps to identify the extent of this in our 2009 survey. Owners and developers, if there are social and environmental action steps that you have taken, please contact us with the details.
