The archipelago of Bocas del Toro has become a key tourist destination for visitors to Panama. The cluster of islands were formed tectonically and are much loved by naturalists who rave about the rich jungle vegetation, mangroves, coral reefs and a species of red frog that is endemic to the area.
The main town of Bocas del Toro - the name is shared with both the province and archipelago - is located on Isla Colón which, together with Isla Bastimientos, are the most visited of the islands. Bocas del Toro has a good number of restaurants and accommodations making it a good base from which to explore the area and set out on diving, surfing and property hunting trips.
Getting to Bocas del Toro
Bocas del Toro airport receives flights from Panama City and David. By land, the drive from Panama City to Almirante, a small port town on the mainland, takes around 6 hours. At Almirante you can pick up a water taxi to the islands.

Bocas Del Toro is a wonderful place. In all of my time traveling, I have not found such a blend of culture, gorgeous landscape and friendly people.
I do think Bocas is currently going through some growing pains, in terms of infrastructure, policy and modernization. Consequently, there are clear challenges facing Bocas that will ultimately determine whether or not it emerges as a true Hot Spot for tourism and foreign investment in Central America.
Anyone considering investing in Bocas should make sure to do their homework. Based on a few recent land disputes Ive heard about, I would not suggest investing in anything not properly titled.
