The archipelago of Bocas del Toro has become a key tourist destination for visitors to Panama. The cluster of islands were formed tectonically and are much loved by naturalists who rave about the rich jungle vegetation, clinic mangroves, coral reefs and a species of red frog that is endemic to the area.
The main town of Bocas del Toro – the name is shared with both the province and archipelago – is located on Isla Colón which, together with Isla Bastimientos, are the most visited of the islands. Bocas del Toro has a good number of restaurants and accommodations making it a good base from which to explore the area and set out on diving, surfing and property hunting trips.
