Flamingo is an affluent vacation area in the booming Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Tourists are attracted to the spectacular beaches, the world-class sport fishing (there's an international tournament every year) and the numerous dive spots. The real estate dollars are following close behind. Recent years have seen a rush of high end resorts and real estate communities to the area bringing with them branded hotel names and championship golf courses backed up by big golfing names.
There's been much talk about the upgrading of the Flamingo Marina since its closure 5 years ago. The plans being considered by the local municipality are ambitious and include state-of-the-art marina facilities, retail and hospitality areas and a capacity for over 400 boat slips. But backtracking by the council has put delays on the final granting of the concession.
Flamingo is an easy 45 minutes drive from Liberia International Airport.
