Granada and Lake Apoyo

Granada is a big draw for tourists and expatriates.  Visitors to the town experience a rich history dating back to the Spanish conquistadors, beautiful colonial architecture and a coherent, walk-able historical center.  There are many places to dine out and the town boasts a surprisingly vibrant nightlife.  Being one of the oldest cities on the continent brings with it a certain cache and its location in Nicaragua’s tourism heartland makes it a logical choice as a stopping off point for visitors.

Granada is surrounded by impressive local scenery and easily accessible attractions.   Choose between a swimming trip to Laguna de Apoyo - a remarkable blue crater lake with crystal clear waters and a rich biodiversity; a boat ride to the “isletas” –  hundreds of tiny islands with lush vegetation curving into Lake Nicaragua; or a shopping trip to the “pueblos blancos” – white villages rich in folklore and great for stocking up on local handicraft.

As with most colonial cities in Central America, Granada is built around its central square; the city's social, cultural, and economic hub. Real estate values are highest near the square and fall off with distance from the centre.  A large part of the Granada real estate market is made up of individual colonial homes for sale.  Our database includes the main multi-unit projects in the city as well as real estate developments close to town.

Getting to Granada

Granada can be accessed in under 1 hour from Managua’s International airport on a new double lane highway that narrows only as it passes though the town of Masaya.

Searching Central America in semiretirement I found Nicaragua intriguing, safe and full of adventure.

More specifically Granada filled all my senses so much that I wanted to purchase a condominium. None existed three years ago so I set out to build a small oasis complex in the city now known as Condo Hotel Xalteva.

Its been a most satisfying and life changing experience. Nicaragua remains off the radar at the moment and therefore a great investment value and on the verge of discovery.
